Vulci Spa

Just 6 km from the Vulci Archaeological Park, the Vulci Thermal Baths are one of the most beautiful attractions in the Tuscia Viterbese area, a corner of relaxation and well-being completely immersed in the unspoiled nature of the Tuscan-Lazio Maremma.
Vulci’s thermal spring was already exploited in Etruscan times for the beneficial and healing properties of these ferruginous waters. Later, the Romans also exploited these waters, creating the first baths.

the Terme di Vulci consists of four thermal pools with predominantly ferrous water. The water temperature varies from 42°C, in the largest pool, to 30°C, in the smallest. All pools are fed by spring water of different colors and depths.
The waters of the Vulci Hot Springs are hyperthermal, meaning that they exceed a temperature of 40°C (42°C in this case). It is anaturally carbonated, ferruginous, acidic water that is microbiologically pure and rich in minerals, such as bicarbonate, sulfate, magnesium, and fluoride.

Terme dei Papi Viterbo

The Baths of the Popes establishment is one of the oldest and most prestigious spas in Italy: its name already alludes to the predilection reserved for these baths by numerous pontiffs, beginning with Gregory IX, who kicked off the papal splendor of these baths as far back as 1235.
The pride of the Terme dei Papi is the monumental thermal pool of over 2,000 square meters: majestic and welcoming, it is fed by the Bullicame spring. The pool can be used any day of the year as the high temperature and steams make the environment constantly warm and pleasant. The pleasure of soaking in the steaming waters in the winter months makes this a unique and picturesque place, as well as a healthy one. The thermal waters, rich in properties, are very useful both from an aesthetic and curative point of view. The water gushes out at the spring at 58° and feeds all the services of the spa.

If you want to take full advantage of the properties of this natural resource, do not miss the Natural Grotto. The Natural Grotto of Terme dei Papi is a natural and unique Turkish bath. A cavity carved into the rock, where a waterfall of thermal water creates a hot-humid environment with 100 percent humidity and 48° inside. The vapors are a real boon to the skin, respiratory tract, joints, and metabolism.

Bullicame Baths

The Bulicame thermal spring (Bulicame Road – distance from the center of Viterbo about 2.5 km): It is centrally located with respect to the park of the same name located near the intersection of the Tuscanese Road and the Terme Road (about 300 meters away).

Bullicame thermal pool

Among the most famous since ancient times, the Bullicame free hot springs are both a place for relaxation and well-being and a socio-cultural attraction. Here, in fact, it is possible to see, in the area that includes the free baths, the famous crater in which the thermal water and mud bubble to the surface amid boiling, splashing and intense steam.

Known even to Dante some of his verses are commemorated on a stele.

The bathing pools in the bullicame area are accessible and bathing is possible.
There is a smaller circular pool and a large elongated pool.

The main outcrop of boiling thermal bullicam water is located in a pond formed by a deep natural crater and protected by a transparent structure.

Admission to Bullicame Park is free, but the area has no services.
Parking is small and unattended (the area is quiet but it is always advisable not to leave valuables in the car).

Bagnaccio Spa

At Bagnaccio you will find two spa offerings: completely free baths or low-cost paid baths.

A few years ago, in fact, the free thermal area was largely fenced off, and the thermal waters channeled to feed three beautiful pools at different temperatures (one round, and two rectangular).

At thefenced-in area , therefore, there are artificial but modern pools, chairs and benches, and a sort of changing room, as well as night lighting, which allows people to stay soaking under the stars until 11 p.m., when the area closes its doors.

Instead, of the old free baths there remains a tiny area where you find a small round pool, which is all that remains of the free baths. Of course, there is no lighting or some kind of facility or service. On the other hand, since almost everyone now enters the paid area, it is usually not too difficult to find a place in the free pool.

It is up to each visitor to choose between a better but paid spa offer and a more spartan but free one. Perhaps the only detail that can be improved is the fact that those who arrive often enter the paid area only because they think the free one no longer exists, and there are no signs on site about this.

There is also a dedicated dog bath in the paid area, a convenient service for those who arrive at the spa with pets and do not know where to leave them.

The five bathtubs of the bath house numerous bathers and people using the vapors for insufflations in every season.

San Filippo Baths

The baths of St. Philip are. simply wonderful! You can get a first idea from the photos: the limestone formations, waterfalls and small warm water pools surrounded by the lush nature of the forest just outside the small town of San Filippo Baths at Val d’Orcia seem to transport you to another world. The positive aspect of this almost surreal premise is that the path running along the river provides easy access to the hot springs.
Using these spas is completely free The area is quite large, but the first pools you encounter along the path near the road are shallow, so they do not stay hot for long. Continuing along the forest trail, however, we reach impressive calcium formations and waterfalls that have earned the nickname “White Whale.” Here, the hot water of the hot springs meets the cold water of the river, giving it a blue-white appearance that contrasts deeply with the green of the forest, creating a truly fascinating backdrop, especially when temperatures begin to cool and the hot water is tempered by the cool air. Keep walking and you reach the other pools that form the White Ditch, right next to the paid spa.
The White Whale because of its strong resemblance to a whale’s mouth: this limestone formation is the most impressive in the entire San Filippo spa area, you can NOT walk on it, the formation is delicate! The water, in fact, bubbles up from the surrounding ground at a temperature of about 48°C, so it is hot, very hot, making it possible to bathe in both summer and winter.
The sulfur in the spa will give you a somewhat… peculiar smell: if you plan to spend the afternoon there, maybe it may be worth spending 3 euros (very little!) to get into the paid spa and take a shower
